Functioning
The governance of the Foundation depends upon three committees which play different but complementary roles : the Administrative Council, the Steering Committee and the Scientific Advisory Committee. They are all aided by an administrative/secretarial service.
The Administrative Council
The Adminstrative Council’s essential task is to ensure the efficient overall operation of the research foundation. The current members are :

• Prof Eric Westhof, Vice-President (Research), University of Strasbourg
• Dr Gilberte Chambaud, Head, Chemistry Section, CNRS
• Mr Bertrand Minault, Alsace regional delegate, CNRS
• Mme Sophie Rohfritsch, Vice-President, Alsace Regional Council
• Mr Olivier Homolle, President, BASF France
• Mr Alain Belguise, President, Bruker Biospin
• Mr Jean Luc Dimarcq, Director, SEMIA
• Prof Petra Hellwig, University of Strasbourg, elected research representative.
The Steering Committee
The tasks of the Steering Committee are to determine the research priorities of the Foundation and their budgets, arbitrate project selection and monitor the progress of projects to ensure their conformity with the strategies defined by the administrative Council, as well as to organise the scientific life of the Foundation. All these things are done under the advice of the Administrative Council.
The Steering Committee is made up of seven members of the Strasbourg scientific community :

Prof Thomas Ebbesen occupies the post of Chairman of the Steering Committee.
The Scientific Advisory Committee
For advice on the grand themes of contemporary science, both the Administrative Council and the Steering Committee turn to members of the Scientific Advisory Committee, which is made up from distinguished scientists outside the Strasbourg community. The founding members are :
